Sureflap microchip cat feeder for $1393/23/2023 Give this a try if your dog can’t get it to work. My Pyr has such a huge head and his collar sits so far back that we actually had to turn the feeder around to make it work. We’ve only ever used the cord because they open/close so much I feel like the battery would die quickly. It has a cord as well as a battery option. I don’t consider this a problem because it slows them down. I will say the door closes on the dogs quite a lot. Quite annoying (we used to leave out big bowls with the food), but less annoying than giving a cat insulin shots twice a day. I don’t know how much your dog eats, but ours eat a LOT - we usually have to fill it 3x a day or so each dog. We lost a couple of chips early on when they would wrestle outside in the woods and it got caught and snapped off. We ALWAYS take their collars off when they go outside (they wear harnesses outside, collars inside). You may or may not have to do this depending on how tall your dog is. Unfortunately the string holding the chip in place is designed for small animals, so we had to get a longer string to attach it to their collars. It comes with a little chip that you hang on their collar. Do you know how tall that thing would have to be to fit my Pyr’s head under it? It reads the microchip on the back of their neck. However, it makes sense why they aren’t being manufactured for large dogs - they have an arch over the feeder that the cat sticks their head under. I couldn’t find any other companies that make a microchip feeder at all. Here’s what we learned when trying to find something similar for big dogs.įirst, apparently sureflap holds the patent on whatever the microchip reader is. We have the sureflap feeders for both cats because the big one tries to steal the little one’s food. Two giant breed dogs and a cat that fucking loves to eat dog food (plus a tiny perfect cat that ate a lot of dog food but never gained an ounce. OMG I can help with this one!! Same situation. Just wanted to get some opinions before I spend a whole boatload each week on it!) If I'm going to do meals, I'll likely switch fully to fresh food like this. (Also as an aside, what is your alls opinion on the farmers dog? It's pretty expensive, and I just started feeding it as a topper/kong enrichment. Im thinking I'm going to have to resort to solely relying on meals, and/or full supervision, but i just wanted to see if there were any other options! Thank you!! Maybe a chip related dish made for larger animals (the surefeed one really is only made for cats and small dogs). So now I'm looking for some sort of solution. I've also thought about raising it out of the cats reach, but that's also a bloat risk. Has anyone found a solution for this? Obviously I could start feeding my dog meals, but I'd prefer not to since he is on the larger side (65lbs) with a deep chest, which makes him at risk of bloat. Dog food is not good for cats, especially not dry food, so I've had to put the dish up when we can't supervise. My cat obviously has figured out there's free food available and makes a mad dash trying to eat the food. This is generally what works best since he self regulates really well being free fed. I free feed my dog dry food so he can graze throughout the day. We just rescued a cat, and he is very very food motivated (even more so than my dog haha). Hi all, I am a new cat owner and long time dog owner.
